Electrical Panel Upgrades in Los Angeles
Many Los Angeles homes still run on panels sized for the appliances of decades ago. Adding an EV charger, a heat pump, an induction range or solar often means the panel needs more capacity or replacing.
Signs you may need an upgrade
Breakers that trip under normal use, no room for new circuits, a panel that feels warm, a 60A or 100A service in a home with modern appliances, or a brand that inspectors often flag.
Permits and inspection
In the City of Los Angeles, panel work needs an electrical permit from LADBS and an inspection. Service upgrades also involve LADWP when the utility connection changes.
What to ask for
A written quote that lists the panel size, the permit, any work at the meter, and how long the power will be off.
Questions
How long does a panel upgrade take?
The work itself is often done in a day, with the power off for part of it. Permits, inspection and any utility appointment add time before and after.
Do I need 200 amps?
It depends on what you run and plan to add. An electrician can do a load calculation to see what your home actually needs.
